Monster Math Freebie

This has been a busy week with planning and shopping for our volunteer tea, report cards, and creating worksheets for my class.  I have been reviewing math skills with my students and made these review sheets to share with you.  Click on the picture of the monster math for your free copy.

If you need a monster themed center, head on over to my TPT store.  I have monster math facts with recording pages with various levels of difficulty.  There are a total of 7 different sets of monster facts.   I also included pages of math fact practice. These are great for early finishers or for students that need extra practice learning math facts.

This is an example of one set of monster math facts.

Hope you are enjoying your last few days with your students before summer vacation!

Word Problems for Second Grade

My class has working on word problems for the last few weeks.  They are getting really good at solving word problems.  I am so proud of them!  They know what key words to look for and the steps in solving them.  I teach them CUBES. I do lots of modeling and then we do guided practice with our white boards.  Before I let them do their independent work, I check for understanding.  Our district is really big on all of these components of a lesson---not to mention the objective and the big concept.
                                   C  -Circle the question
                                   U - Underline important information
                                   B - Block out information
                                   E - Write the equation
                                   S - Solve.

Click on the addition and subtraction word problems for your free copy.  In the subtraction worksheet I put in extra information to make it more difficult.  Click on the freebie friday picture below for more great freebies!

The Very Lonely Firefly

My class  has been studying insects.  We have been reading many books written by Eric Carle.  Open House is just around the corner for us so I thought we would do an art project based on The Very Lonely Firefly by Eric Carle.  I just love the way their fireflies turned out.  This was a two day project.  The first day we painted the background and paper for the fireflies.  I added water to the paint because I want to see the brush strokes for added texture.

This week we will be busy writing about fireflies and other insects.  Do you have any good ideas for Open House?
