All About Bats

My students love learning about bats!  There are so many great resources on bats.  Our favorite read aloud is Stellaluna.  I found this free online storytelling of this book by Pamela Reed.  She does an amazing job reading the story and the students are mesmerized while listening to the story.

After listening to the story, we compared and contrasted bats to birds.

Here are a few videos we watched in class.

We read many books on bats and wrote about bats.  My students know so many facts about bats!

We also had fun drawing bats.

Halloween Math Freebies for Second Grade and More

My students are enjoying my Halloween math worksheets that I have created over the years.  I decided to make it a little easier for you to access them because we all have too many things to do.  There is never enough hours in the day to get everything done.  My students love the riddles.  Hopefully, I will get some extra time to make more Halloween math riddles with simple addition with regrouping.

My students are enjoying all the great Halloween books.  We finished writing about The Bumpy Little Pumpkin.  It is about a little girl that makes a jack-o-lantern with the help of  her animal friends.  The message in this story is that like people, jack-o-lanterns come in all different shapes and sizes.  After listening to this book, my students all want a lumpy, bumpy pumpkin.  Here is an affiliate link to purchase the The Bumpy Little Pumpkin from Amazon.

Here are few pages from my monthly Common Core Morning Work packets.   Click here to go to my TPT store and click on the preview for a few  FREE sample pages.

We made jack-o-lanterns for fun.

I had to buy costumes for my dogs.  Hunter doesn't look too excited about his costume.  I am hoping they will wear them for Halloween when I have to pass out candy to a hundred or more trick-or- treaters.

Place Value for Second Grade

I am linking up with Angie from Lucky Little Learners and Ashley from Schroeder Shenanigans in Second.  This month we are talking about math strategies, math games, and math FREEBIES.

My class has been busy learning about place value.  I love making my place value scarecrows with my students.  I love incorporating a little arts and crafts into our math lesson.  This can be used as an informal math assessment.
Fall Math

Here is a great video to teach place value.  After watching this video several times, my students know place value!
After they completed their scarecrows, they played Three in a Row.   Little do they know that they are learning math facts while having fun!

My students also enjoy playing Roll & Cover.
