Winter Writing

This last week we have been busy writing about winter.  We live in Southern California and temperatures have been very warm.  At the end of the school day, we don't need a jacket and I need to use the air conditioner in my classroom.   Luckily, my school is close to the mountains so my students can drive to the snow and experience playing in the it.  Occasionally it will snow at my school and it will last for a few hours.

Here are some pictures of my students playing centers.

We drank a melted snowman.  They loved seeing these water bottles on their desks Friday morning.  You can get these adorable labels from Our Best Bites.

Mental Math for Second Grade

My students will be mentally subtracting 10 and 100 from a given number.  Our math series isn't aligned with our common core standards so I have to create many things for my class.  Click here for a FREE copy of the standard NBT.8 for second grade.

Winter Super Sentence Freebie

I am very fortunate to still have this week off from school.  I have been busy creating things for my classroom.  Last night I laminated some math centers and today I have to cut them out.

My students need extra practice on writing sentences using detail.  Last night I made these super sentences to use with my students.  I made them in color and a black & white version.  Click on the winter super sentence picture for your free copy.

Now I am off to play with Lexi.  She was a stray that was found at our school 4 months ago.  She loves her walks and playing fetch.  I got lucky when I took this picture.  She usually looks away when I snap the picture.
