July Currently

I'm linking up with Farley at Oh' Boy Fourth Grade for  her July Currently.

Listening:  I am listening to the hum of the air conditioner.  I know it is summer but we are having a heat wave.  Yesterday I ran errands and the heat really got to me.  When I got home, I had to take a nap.
Loving:  I am loving staying up late and not having to get up at five o'clock.  I have a 50 minute drive to school and many weeks I have morning duty which means I have to be on the playground by 7:15.  Needless to say, I am enjoying being on my own schedule.
Thinking:  I can't wait to go to New York City and tour the city.  This will be the third time I have been there.  I love going to Broadway Plays and seeing all the sights of the big city.  Then we are off to visit friends in the Hamptons.  I have never been to the East Coast so I am looking forward to all of the new sights.
Wanting:  I love doing things at my own pace.  When I am teaching, I am always on the go.  It is nice to slow down and enjoy life.
Needing:  I need to get my sleep pattern back on schedule.  I have been staying up until 4:00 and getting up at 11:00.  Before I know it, I will be having to get up at 5:00.
Tips, Tricks, or Hints:  As teachers and parents we are always on the go.  We need to slow down and enjoy life.  We need to remember to do things for ourselves.
Hope you are staying cool and having a wonderful summer!

Five for Friday

Hi everyone!  I am linking up Doodle Bugs Teaching to share five random things this week.

Random #1
The winners of Daily Practice for Second Grade are #30 (Jean) and  #17 (Holly).  I picked two winners because I did the random number generator this morning and never got around to posting.  Then I realized 2 more people entered, so I did another random number generator. Congratulations Jean and Holly!!
Random # 2
I absolutely love this moisturizer by June Jacobs.  I ran out and need to buy some more.  It is a little pricey, but I love the way it feels on my face.

Random #3
This is my new toy for this summer.  I am doing a lot of walking and want to track my progress.  I have figured out how to use the GPS watch so now it is time to start wearing the heart rate monitor.

Random #4
This weekend I want to do some baking.  I love to bake!  My favorite brownie recipe is in this book.  The brownies are called Many Swirls Brownies.  It is a mixture of brownie and cheesecake.
Random #5
I just finished watching the romantic movie called Safe Haven.  It is a movie based on a Nicholas Sparks novel.  I love reading his novels.  Have you watched any good movies lately?
 Have a wonderful weekend!

Monster Lesson Plan Cover

I am starting to plan for the next school year and am thinking about having monsters as my theme.  Here is a lesson plan cover that I made to share with you.  Click on the picture below for your free copy.  The border and monster clip art is courtesy of Creative Clips.  I absolutely adore her clip art.

Hope you are having a wonderful summer!!

Daily Practice for Second Grade

I love creating new things for my classroom.  Today I  finished my Daily Practice for Second Grade which is aligned with the Common Core Standards.  The Daily Practice can be used as morning work, homework, or independent practice as you with small groups.   I didn't want to make it too difficult because my little ones are new to second grade.  Many of the skills are from first grade.  It is a great way for the students to review skills after having the summer off.  The packet contains math and English Language Arts skills.  I will be making more monthly packets which will gradually get more difficult as the students learn new concepts.  Click here to go to my TPT store.

Spiral Review for 2nd grade

Click on the picture below of the Morning Work for Second Grade for a few sample pages.

Leave me a comment below and I will use a random number generator to pick a lucky winner for  my new Daily Practice for Second Grade, August Edition.  I will be picking a lucky winner on June 21st, 2013.

End of the Year Activities

Our last week of school was busy.  We took a field trip to the Los Angeles Zoo.  Before going on our field trip, we made tie dye T-shirts.  I wasn't going to make them this year, but a student had asked me about them.  I had her sister in my class the previous year.  So, I had a parent volunteer make them with the students.  The students enjoyed wearing them at the zoo and it was easy for me to spot my students quickly.  I was very glad that we made them.  The students also commented that they liked being able to see their classmates from a distance.

The first time I made tie dye T-shirts with my students I was afraid that I would mess it up.  I don't think that anymore.  No matter what you do, they will look great.  Here are some pictures of the T-shirts before I washed them.

We also made a crystal garden our last week of school.  Next year I would like to do more experiments with my student.  If you have any great experiments, I would love to hear from you.

I have been busy playing around with fonts.  I am trying out this font that I bought from TPT.  It is called "get your bubble on" from Cara Carroll.  What do you think?
Hope you have a relaxing and wonderful summer!
